Ħamrun Spartans bounced back from their defeat against Floriana with a 2-1 win over Sliema Wanderers.

Sliema had a good opportunity on the 17th minute. Jean Paul Farrugia sent a header that hit the post.

The Spartans went ahead on the brink of half time when Matthew Degabriele awarded Ħamrun a penalty after John Mintoff handled the ball inside the penalty area. From the elven metres mark, Jake Grech made no mistake and finished past Glenn Zammit.

Ħamrun increased the margin of the score on the 61st minute. Jake Grech received the ball on the right flank and sent a cross inside the penalty area which Marko Potezica deflected inside his own net.

Things went from bad to worse for Sliema on the 66th minute when John Mintoff was shown his second yellow card.

Four minutes later, the Wanderers were awarded a penalty when Jean Paul Farrugia was brought down inside the penalty area. Denni Rocha Dos Santos took charge of the penalty and converted past David Cassar.

Jacques Scerri’s side nearly increased the margin of the score on the 79th minute when Massimiliano Giusti saw his effort hitting the crossbar.
