In a game that saw both team ending up in ten men, Floriana registered a 2-1 win over Ħamrun Spartans.

The Spartans created the first chance of the match after four minutes. From a free kick, Luke Sciberras sent a cross that was met by Leandro Motta Dos Santos whose header was well saved by Matthew Grech.

Floriana hit back two minutes. Mario Fontanella went on a good run and hit a shot that was parried by Andrea Cassar.

On the 15th minute, Floriana went ahead. Following a corner, Manolito Micallef failed to completely clear his lines and the ball fell for Alex Cini who finished past Cassar.

Ħamrun equalised on the 41st minute. Saturday Nanapere served Motta and the latter finished home from close range.

Giovanni Tedesco’s side regained the lead on the 67th minute. Jorge Mesqueu Neto fouled Amadou Samb inside the penalty area and the referee ordered a penalty. From the eleven metres mark, Fontanella made no mistake and finished past Cassar.

Two red cards followed this goal. On the 70th minute, Floriana’s Steve Pisani was sent off. Seven minutes later, Siraj Arab of Ħamrun was also given his marching orders after receiving his second caution.

Following this win, Floriana are one point behind Birkirkara in fifth place, while Ħamrun remain tenth.
