Real Madrid were unlucky not to go ahead on the 17th minute. Toni Kross sent a dangerous cross inside the penalty area that was met by Karim Benzema whose header hit the ground and the woodwork before Manuel Neuer pounced on the rebound.

Bayern responded on the 23rd minute. Arjen Robben delivered the ball towards David Alaba and the Austrian defender hit a powerful drive that went high.

Two minutes later, the German champions went ahead. From a corner, Thiago Alcantara sent a cross inside the penalty area towards Arturo Vidal who thumped in a stunning header that gave Keylor Navas no chance.

On the 40th minute, Vidal went close to add another for his side. Robben went on the right flank past Kroos and sent the ball flying towards the Chilean whose effort went slightly wide.

Real Mardrid hit back three minutes later. Cristiano Ronaldo hit a powerful strike that forced a great save from Neuer. From the resulting corner, Kroos curled a spectacular effort that ended up off target.

This chance was followed by a penalty awarded for the home side. Frank Ribery’s shot was blocked by Daniel Carvajal inside the penalty area and the referee controversially judged the situation to be a hands ball offence. However, Bayern failed to take an advantage of it as Vidal’s shot from the penalty spot went horribly high.

Bayern paid harshly for losing this chance since Read Madrid equalised two minutes into the second. Carvajal delivered a cross into the path of Ronaldo and the latter placed the ball past Neuer.

Neuer was on the alert to keep Bayern level on the 55th minute. Luka Modric curled in a great ball that was met by Gareth Bale, but his powerful header was tipped behind by the German goalkeeper.

The game became more difficult for Bayern Munich on the hour mark as they ended up in ten men. Javier Martinez irregularly stopped Ronaldo’s run at the centre of the field of play and the referee showed him his second yellow card in the space of four minutes.

Having an extra player, Zinedine Zidane’s side kept putting pressure and had another opportunity on the 65th minute. From a free kick, Sergio Ramos saw his show going marginally wide.

Neuer saved Bayern again on the 72nd minute. Carvajal sent a through ball towards Benzema whose low shot forced another great save from the opposing goalkeeper.

Three minutes later, Neuer was crucial again with another great stop. Benzema served Ronaldo inside the penalty area and the Portuguese star fired a close range shot that was well saved by the Bayern shot stopper.

However, Neuer was eventually beaten by Ronaldo on the 75th minute. The thirty-two year old was picked by Marco Asensio deep inside the penalty area and guided a finish through Neuer’s legs.

Real Madrid kept on insisting in attack and went close again on the 80th minute. Marcelo’s strong shot from inside the penalty area went centimetres wide.

One minute into the additional time, the Spanish giants had a goal disallowed. Following a free kick, Sergio Ramos headed inside the net, but the Real captain was caught off side.
