Hibernians created the first opportunity of the match on the 10th minute. Isaac Ntow’s cross was met by Dunstan Vella whose effort was deflected for a corner.

Floriana hit back four minutes later. Maurizio Vella fired a shot that was parried by Andrew Hogg.

However, Hogg could do nothing on the 25th minute as Floriana forged ahead. Alex Cini delivered a cross from the right flank that went into the path of Ignacio Varela who headed the ball past the Maltese goalkeeper.

During the additional time given by the referee prior to half-time, Johann Bezzina hit a shot from outside the penalty area that sailed wide.

Hibernians made a good start to the second half and had a goal disallowed on the hour mark. Tiago Adan Fonseca was judged to have used his hands to put the ball inside the net and thus the goal was ruled out.

Three minutes later, substitute Taylon Nicolas Marcolino of Hibernians drilled a shot that forced a decent save from Ini Etim Akpan.

Oliveira’s side doubled their advantage on the 70th minute. Daniel Aguis sent a diagonal shot from the left that gave Hogg no chance.

On the 80th minute, Varela received a cross from Cabral and headed the ball goal wards, but his effort failed to hit the target.

The Paolites could have scored a consolation goal two minutes into the additional time. Steve Pisani floored Ntow inside the penalty area and the referee pointed towards the spot. However, Johann Bezzina saw his shot from the eleven metres mark being saved by Akpan.
