Birkirkara scored the opening goal of the match on the 27th minute. Michael Mifsud ran inside the penalty area and hit a diagonal shot that went past Justin Haber.

The Maroons equalised on the 58th minute. Juan Corbolan’s cross was met by Haruna Garba who headed the ball inside the net.

Darren Abdilla’s side forged ahead on the 78th minute. Paul Fenech floored Nikolai Muscat inside the penalty area and the referee pointed towards the spot. From the eleven metres mark, Amadou Samb converted.

Gżira were reduced to ten men one minute from time as Samb was sent off after being shown his second yellow card.
