Balzan made a great start to the match as they scored the opening goal after just three minutes. Following a mistake by Rowen Muscat, Alfred Effiong took hold of possession and delivered the ball towards Uros Ljubomirac who finished past Henry Bonello.

Valletta equalised one minute prior to half-time. Balzan’s defenders failed to clear Bojan Kaljevic’s header. The ball rolled into the path of Mario Fontanella and the latter placed it behind Steve Sultana.

The Citizens scored again two minutes into the second half. Fontanella received a pass from Kaljevic and drilled a low shot that stamped off the woodwork and ended up inside the net.

Kaljevic scored Valletta’s third goal on the 72nd minute. The Montenegrin striker received the ball from Fontanella and slotted it home.

Valletta sealed the three points on the 87th minute. Enmy Manuel Pena Beltre’s effort from close range gave Sultana no chance.
