Hibernians were coming from a series of positive results. Such results meant that the Paolites were now in a position to challenge for honours once again.

Gudja also registered a number of encouraging results prior to the Christmas break. These results were enough for them to move slightly up the table. However, they suffered a defeat against Mosta last Wednesday.

Prior to this match, there was a difference of ten points between the two sides.

Hibernians broke the deadlock on the 32nd minute. Following a cross by Timothy Tabone Desira, Imanol Iriberri served Jurgen Degabriele and the latter placed the ball past Jonathan Debono.

Sanderra’s side doubled their advantage on the 56th minute. Ayrton Attard’s cross was met by Iriberri who slotted the ball inside the net from close range.

Following this result, Hibernians are second ahead of Valletta.
