Sharapova out of Tokyo with ankle injury

Maria Sharapova had to pull out of her Pan Pacific Open quarter-final with Petra Kvitova after just seven games in Tokyo.

Wimbledon champion Kvitova was leading 4-3 in the first set when the second seed Sharapova twisted her ankle while serving.

Sharapova called the trainer immediately and took the decision to withdraw after consultation.
