Self-taught artist Donald Peter Dalli launches debut solo exhibition
Maltese artist Donald Peter Dalli launches his debut solo exhibition, The Abstract Dialogue, at The Bizzilla Art Space in Floriana, showcasing 15 years of abstract works that explore emotion, form, and interpretation through bold mixed-media painting
A new solo exhibition by Maltese artist Donald Peter Dalli is set to open at The Bizzilla Art Space in Floriana, showcasing a body of abstract work developed over 15 years of experimentation in paint-pouring and mixed media techniques.
Titled The Abstract Dialogue, the exhibition presents a collection of contemporary abstract pieces that explore emotional states through layered compositions of lines, dots, and fluid forms.
Dalli, a self-taught artist, began his practice using household oil-based paints before gradually evolving his technique into more complex mixed-media abstractions. His work is influenced by expressive and gestural styles associated with modern abstract art.
The exhibition title refers to the concept of dialogue through interpretation and disagreement, positioning the artworks as open-ended visual statements rather than fixed narratives.
Speaking about the collection, Dalli said, “It is a matter of shape, color, and composition. My collection challenges the expectations of everyday life. It makes you stop to gaze, admire, or even criticize. Whether you love it or hate it, the goal is to make you feel.”
He added that the work is intended as a form of personal expression and creative renewal, describing it as "a process of emotional and artistic release."
The Abstract Dialogue is designed as an interactive viewing experience aimed at encouraging public engagement with abstract art in an intimate gallery setting. The exhibition marks Dalli’s first solo presentation.
The Abstract Dialogue will run from 7 to 28 May at The Bizzilla Art Space in Floriana. Opening hours are from 9am to 4pm.
