Kalkara to host fifth edition of Lejla Rnella

The fifth edition of Lejla Rnella will take place at Kalkara Bay on 1 August, with a programme of live music, family entertainment and community activities organised by the Kalkara Local Council. 

Details of this year's event were announced by Local Government and Public Works Minister Alison Zerafa Civelli and Kalkara Mayor Wayne Aquilina during a press conference ahead of the festival.

The annual event is being supported through funding from the Ministry for Local Government and Public Works and additional funds administered by the Local Government Division, which are intended to assist local councils in organising cultural and community activities.

Addressing the launch, Zerafa Civelli said the government would continue investing in local councils to enable them to organise initiatives that strengthen communities and bring life to town squares and localities across Malta and Gozo.

"Through the support we are providing to local councils, we are creating more opportunities for families to enjoy quality activities within their communities, while continuing to invest in culture, local tourism and the economies of our towns and villages," the minister said.

Mayor Wayne Aquilina thanked the ministry and the Local Government Division for their continued support, saying it enables the Kalkara Local Council to organise large-scale community events and promote the locality's cultural life.

This year's programme will feature performances by Mużika Mużika winner Jasmine, singer-songwriter Jamie Cardona and a headline live concert by Kevin Paul.

Organisers said the event will also include a dedicated children's area and an accessible space for people with disabilities to ensure families and visitors of all ages can attend.

A free Park & Ride service will operate for visitors travelling from outside Kalkara, with shuttle minibuses transporting attendees between designated parking areas and Rnella Bay.
