‘Transfrmers’ global box office hits €456 million

Big-budget, effects-filled ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ smashed its way through box office records, with global tickets sales reaching €456 million ($645 million).

Paramount Pictures, which released the movie about shape-shifting aliens battling for control of Earth, said the movie was its highest-grossing international debut ever.

The movie opened simultaneously in 58 overseas markets last Wednesday, along with its US and Canadian debut.

The success of the 3-D sci-fi flick also helped pull audiences into theatres for the new comedies, which generated decent sales amid low expectations during a summer weekend light on big new releases.
