Award winning comedians to perform in Qawra

The 16th edition of the Laugh Out Loud Productions Stand-up Comedy Show is back once again by popular demand, with three award-winning comedians from London’s comedy circuit.

LOL Productions are proud to present Joel Dommett from the UK, Mickey D from Australia and Jason John Whitehead from Canada – all top international comedians who will perform live in Malta on September 24 and 25 at the Dolmen Resort Hotel, Qawra. The XFM Stand-up Comedy Show offers an unforgettable night out, with the very best of stand-up comedy guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.

The comedians

Mickey D burst onto the comedy scene as a 17 year old and made an immediate impact, storming the national finals of JJJ’s Raw Comedy. He was then selected to be part of the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s first ever ‘Comedy Zone’ line up. Today, Mickey is recognised as a truly international funny man.

This multi-award winning comedian has performed at no less than eight Edinburgh festivals – twice being asked to perform at The Montreal Comedy festival. In 2007, he pulled off the comedy grand slam of Montreal, Edinburgh, Melbourne, Auckland and his hometown Adelaide, the latter awarding him the ‘Best Show’ gong for which he was again short-listed in 2008 and 2009.

Joel Dommett’sfirst gig took place in Los Angeles, while he was in the city visiting a friend. His theory was that shame can’t swim, so it wouldn’t follow him home. And he was correct! It didn’t. Although an addiction to standing up on a lonely plinth nightly making people chuckle did. Joel carried on when he returned to the UK and hasn’t stopped since.

Since then, he has got into the English Comedian of the Year finals, won Stand Up and Coming New Act of the year 2008, won the Comedy Cafe New Competition five times and gigged as far away as Holland and Reykjavik.

Jason John Whitehead hails from Nova Scotia but has called England his home for the past decade, although he has made a name for himself worldwide, making people laugh in China, Australia, Holland, Dubai, France, USA and New Zealand to name but a few. As well as being a regular headliner on the UK club circuit, he has already appeared on The Comedy Store Live and World Stands Up for Paramount Television and recently filmed his own one-hour TV special for Comedy Now in North America.

The impact of his edgy delivery and unique perspective has been such that he was the winner of the prestigious BBC Comedy Award in 2000, has been short-listed for an Edinburgh Writers Guild Award and broken the ticket sales record for Camden Fringe Festival.
