Baroque Festival | Molière’s Don Juan at Teatru Manoel

Drama at the Baroque Festival with Maltese adaptation of Don Juan

As part of the Valletta International Baroque Festival 2013 Teatru Manoel is staging Molière's Don Juan on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th January at 7.30pm.

The play, translated and adapted in Maltese by poet and novelist Immanuel Mifsud, will be performed in Maltese with English surtitles and is directed by Chris Gatt.

"In this reinterpration of Molière's great satirical tragicomedy, Don Juan is a citizen of the 21st century where a gentleman's word is worthless, where questions of humour, ethics and morals are things of the past and where the only philosophy is grab what grab can; a contemporary Baroque morality tale," Chris Gatt, the director of this production, said.

The cast are the Teatru Manoel Players made up of leading and established actors brought together for this production with Jes Camilleri in the main role of Don Juan, flanked by Pierre Stafrace in the role of Sganarelle. The cost also includes Manuel Cauchi, Coryse Borg, Franica Pulis, Aaron Fenech, Claudio Carta, Magdalene van Kuilenburg, Marisa Aquilina, Daniel Azzopardi and James Sultana.

The set for this performance has been designed by Romualdo Moretti whilst Christine Tong is the Stage Manager.
