Birkirkara FC are in advanced talks to own its first 11-a-side football ground, the club's president and former Labour minister, Chris Cardona, has confirmed.

"We recently reached a stage where we can close, so that Birkirkara can, for the first time, have a place of their own where they can train," Cardona said whilst speaking on the TV programme 'Il-Kampjonat' on Monday evening.

The land lies a short distance outside Birkirkara, close to the San Ġwann industrial area. According to Cardona, Work is underway with the relevant authorities to determine which permits can be issued and what can be developed on it.

Cardona said the club's leadership is in advanced discussions on the project.

He explained that the club is working with a landowner who is also a Birkirkara FC supporter, with the aim of giving the club its own place to train and develop its players.
