AX Hotels employee wins gold award for best food server

Joseph Vella, head bartender of the Seashells Resort at Suncrest was awarded the Gold Award for Best Hotel Food and Beverage Server in Malta by Mario de Marco, parliamentary secretary for Tourism, the Environment and Culture.

AX hotels received seven other nominations in the Malta Tourism Authority’s Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Awards Night, which was held on 4 March at the Radisson Baypoint Hotel.

The STAR awards aim to encourage better services in the tourism industry while rewarding top employees.

Eleven awards were handed out for outstanding service and hospitality, and one award for an exemplary employee in the hotel sector – the Hotel Worker of the Year.

The winners in the Service Categories of the Star awards are selected through a process of tourist nominations, who voluntarily fill out forms distributed among various hotels, hostels and restaurants in Malta and Gozo. The Hotel Worker of the year award is based on nominations by the industry and judged by a selection panel composed of four different tourism-related entities.

The awards are split into different categories and included travel representatives, taxi drivers, tourist guides, coach drivers and even diving instructors. Each of the STAR Award winners received a certificate, an 18ct gold lapel-pin and €800 cash prize, whereas the runners-up received a certificate and prize in cash of €150.
