Two arrested over suspected trafficking of heroin
Police seize 31 sachets containing a substance suspected to be heroin, with an estimated street value exceeding €2,500 and a further €6,000 in cash
Two people have been arrested following intensive investigations and continuous surveillance linked to alleged drug trafficking and possession, police said.
The arrests were made at around 1:45pm on Wednesday, when officers stopped a Citroën car in Naxxar Road, San Ġwann.
Inside the vehicle were a 38-year-old Maltese man from Msida, who was driving, and a 39-year-old Maltese woman residing in San Ġwann.
A search of the car led to the discovery of 31 sachets containing a substance suspected to be heroin, with an estimated street value exceeding €2,500. Police also found approximately €6,000 in cash.
Further searches were carried out at the suspects’ residence, where a number of luxury items were seized, along with several vehicles belonging to the pair, including a Mercedes A-Class and an Audi Q5.
The man and woman are being held in police custody for further questioning and are expected to be arraigned in the coming days on charges related to alleged drug trafficking, possession and money laundering.
