Marsalforn murder trial: Jury shown body cam footage
Inspector Wayne Camilleri continues recounting the police investigation with a site visit to the Marsalforn crime scene scheduled for early Saturday
The trial by jury into the fatal stabbing of Fawaz Najem continued on its 11th day, with Police Inspector Wayne Camilleri resuming his testimony and the court viewing footage related to the accused’s arrest.
During Friday’s sitting, jurors were shown segments of bodycam footage of the statement.
The footage forms part of the prosecution’s evidence as the accused continues to plead not guilty, insisting he acted in self-defence.
Inspector Camilleri continued detailing the investigation, including the sequence of events following the incident and the statements given by the accused. His testimony builds on earlier evidence regarding the chaotic nature of the altercation and the difficulty investigators faced in reconciling conflicting witness accounts.
At the end of the sitting, the court was informed that arrangements have been made for the jury to visit the scene of the crime in Marsalforn. The site visit is scheduled for 7am on Saturday morning, allowing jurors to better understand the layout and context in which the fatal incident unfolded.
The prosecution is being led by lawyers Angele Vella and Cynthia Tomasuolo on behalf of the Attorney General.
The accused is represented by Peter Fenech, Elena Fenech and Amy Zahra, while Franco Debono and Matthew Xuereb are appearing on behalf of the victim’s family.
The case continues before Judge Neville Camilleri.
