Over 3,000 vehicles added to Malta’s roads in three months

A recent report by the National Statistics Office indicates that passenger cars accounted for the largest share of newly licensed vehicles

The number of licensed motor vehicles on Malta’s roads increased by 3,086 during the second quarter of 2026, according to figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO).

This amounted to a net average increase of 34 vehicles per day.

Passenger cars accounted for the largest share of newly licensed vehicles, making up 58.1% of the total. Motorcycles and e-bikes followed at 28.6%.

Petrol-powered vehicles accounted for 58% of newly licensed vehicles, followed by diesel-powered vehicles at 33.5% and electric vehicles at 3.9%.

Compared with the previous quarter, the number of plug-in hybrid vehicles with diesel-electric engines increased by 9.3%, while petrol-electric mild hybrid vehicles rose by 6%.

Petrol-electric plug-in hybrid vehicles also increased by 5.8%.
