Charged with snatch and grabs on elderly

Police have arrested and charged Joseph Xuereb, 49 of Tarxien with three cases of violent assault on three elderly women in Sliema, Gzira and Tarxien.

Xuereb was charged with having snatched jewellery from the necks and arms of an 80 year-old, an 82 year-old and 78 year-old woman, causing them slight injuries in the process.

He was also charged of having committed crimes during the operative period of a suspended jail term, and of relapsing.

Magistrate Giovanni Gixti denied a bail request, and remanded Xuereb into custody.
