Policeman charged with attempted murder
A policeman was remanded in custody this afternoon, after being charged with the attempted murder of his wife in Rabat last month.
The policeman is charged with the attempted murder of his wife.
Constable Carmel Cutajar, 47 of Rabat who allegedly shot and seriously injured his estranged wife Maria outside the Point de Vue in Saqqajja on September 26, was remanded in custody after facing attempted murder charges.
Cutajar, who stood composed in the dock before Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included the possession and use of an unlicensed gun to commit a crime.
The court heard that Cutajar has been held at Mount Carmel Hospital since the incident, and ruled that he continues to remain receiving treatment at the Hospital's Forensic Ward.
