Romanian shop assistants ‘find’ clients purse and go on shopping spree

Two Romanian women were remanded in custody by a Court after they were charged with fraud.

Romanian nationals Cezarina-Catalina Nicolea, 28 and Oana Elena Alexandru, 25 both residing in Malta were remanded in custody after a court heard that they "found" a purse which was accidentally left on the counter in a shop where they worked at Bay Street, St. Julian's and went on a shopping spree with the contents.

A Russian national Luiza Tsacheva Obretenova entered the shop Collci in Bay Street, and forgot her purse on the counter while she tried on some clothes.

She returned to the shop asking if she had left the purse containing cash and three credit cards inside, only to hear a 'no' from the two accused.

Investigations led Police to discover that Obretenova's cards were constantly being used, and the two accused were photographed at HSBC cash machines, and inside various stores where transactions were made using the stolen credit cards.
