Three charged with conspiracy to commit a crime

Three men were remanded in custody after being charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, and of being in possession of items related to theft.

Francis Formosa, 42 of Burmarrad, Freddie Alfred Zahra, 40 of St. Paul's Bay, and 39 year-old Algerian Ismail Haddewi, aslos of St. Paul's Bay were remanded in custody by Magistrate Giovanni Grixti after pleading 'not guilty' to the serious charge of conspiracy to commit a crime.

The three were arrested last Wednesday afternoon after the police followed a tip-off by an anonymous caller, who spotted them in a car on the Bahar ic-Caghaq Coast Road.

During a search in their car, police found balaclavas, pepper spray, a crow bar, gloves and other items which they couldn't justify as to why they were in their possession.

Formosa, Zahra and Haddewi are all relapsers, and were remanded on the basis that the court found them to be not reliable.

According to the police, the men are also being investigated in connection to a recent hold-up on a businessman.
