Man charged with flatmate’s attempted murder

37-year-old Neil Andrew Vella of Birkirkara was this morning remanded in custody after he was charged with attempted murder, seriously injuring his flat-mate Sandro Mifsud, by stabbing him with a pair of scissors in his side during an argument over missing money.

Vella, who appeared bruised and with a black-eye claimed to have acted in self defence, when he was allegedly assaulted with the scissors by Mifsud.

The accused said he head-butted the victim who fell to the ground and turned the scissors Mifsud while he tried to stab him.

Vella was remanded in custody without bail.

Lawyers Michael and Lucio Sciriha appeared for the accused.
