Remanded over corruption of minor

A man was remanded in custody this afternoon after he was charged with corrupting a minor.

A 43 year-old man from Msida was denied bail after he was charged with corrupting his partner's 14 year-old daughter.

Inspector Louise Calleja from the Police Vice Squad presented the court with two mobile phones which were taken from the accused, one of which had a video-film of him receiving oral sex from the minor.

She added that the mother and her daughter had come to her to file a report against the accused.

While a Magistrate issued a warrant for the accused's arrest, his interrogation had been suspended because he had complained of chest pains and was admitted to hospital.

But while in hospital, the accused had contacted his partner and the victim, who happen to live with him, who suddenly decided to go back to the police to retract their report.

The court also heard how the mother and the victim had in fact turned up at the Police Headquarters in Floriana this morning, bring him personal belongings.

While lawyer Arthur Azzopardi argued for bail, the police insisted that bail had to be denied because the mother and the victim were under intimidation.

Magistrate Marsanne Farrugia denied bail.
