Admits to 28 burglaries, jailed for four years

A 26 year-old from San Gwann has been jailed for four years this afternoon, after he admitted to a total of 28 charges related to burglaries and attempted burglaries from homes in various localities.

Matthew Camilleri, 26 of San Gwann, and currently serving a five year jail term for theft, was handed another four years in jail by Magistrate Doreen Clarke,  after he plead guilty to charges a total of 28 charges of burglaries, and attempted break-ins from homes around the island.

Camilleri,  was charged with having stolen thousands of euro worth of gold and silver items, cash and other valuables from homes in San Gwann, Sliema, Gzira, St. Paul's Bay, Mellieha, St. Julian's and the Coastline Hotel in Salina.

In one of the burglaries, Camilleri is said to have made off with an estimated €100,000 in valuables from a house in San Gwann last September.

When handing judgement, Magistrate Clarke upheld a request made by lawyer Gianluca Caruana Curran, and ordered a ban on the publication or any reference to the parents of the accused.
