Jailed four years after admitting to theft

Mario Zammit, 26 of Zabbar was jailed for four years this afternoon, after admitting to theft, receiving stolen goods, causing wilful damage and relapsing.

Mario Zammit was charged before Magistrate Neville Camilleri, together with another three friends of his, who were all arrested on Friday night, as Police foiled a burglary from a yard in Luqa.

Two of the men were caught trying to climb the yard's wall, while the other two were caught inside and preparing to leave with strips of copper cables and other objects.

During yesterday's arraignment, a second of the four youths, Brian Fenech, 38 also of Zabbar admitted his involvement in the crime, received a conditional discharge and was placed under probation for three years.

28 year-old Gary Mifsud and 25 year-old Ronald Azzopardi, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were refused bail.

Magistrate Camilleri ordered they be remanded in custody at Corradino Prisons.
