Court to hear evidence in three murder cases
Court will this week hear the compilation of evidence in the murder cases of Matthew Zahra, Mario Camilleri l-Imniehru and his son Mario Camilleri Jr.
Jason Galea, 39 of Birzebbugia and Ronald Urry, 49 of Rahal Gdid will tomorrow face Magistrate Edwina Grima as they stand charged with the murder of Matthew Zahra.
Zahra was reported missing on 15 August last year. He was last seen in Valletta and Marsaxlokk, but disappeared after driving George Tabone, known as George tal-Gramm, to the airport. The jeweller has since been charged in court with the purchase of stolen jewellery and gold items.
The police found Zahra's vehicle in Marsaxlokk with a dvr system inside. Investigations determined the dvr system belonged to George Tabone. The jeweller told police investigators he had handed the tape to Zahra to keep it away from his wife.
The remains of a foot, suspected to belong to Zahra, was found by the police while unearthung the bodies of two murdered men. Pathologists are awaiting DNA confirmation that the foot found in a field at Qajjenza Birzebbuga, belongs to Zahra.
Jason Galea this Wednesday will be re-arraigned to court in connection with the gangland murder of Mario Camilleri, 51, known as l-Imniehru and his son Mario Camilleri Jr aged 21. George Galea, 41 of St. Julian's, is also charged with the same murder. George is the Ronald Urry's half brother.
The body of drug trafficker Mario Camilleri l-Imnieħru was earlier last week exhumed to confirm the cause of death.
The two accused also face charges of hiding the corpses of the father and son in a field, illegal use of firearms, stealing from their victims and relapsing.
Lawyer Joe Giglio will appear as Jason Galea's defence while Dr Gianella Demarco and Gianluca Caruana Curran are appearing for George Galea.
Legal Procurator Mario Mifsud Bonnici is appearing for Ronald Urry.
Inspectors Chris Pullicino, Michael Mallia, Louise Calleja, Fabian Fleri and Trevor Micallef, are prosecuting.
