Man charged with assaulting officers

A Mosta man was granted bail over charges of assaulting police officers inside the police station

Jeffrey Cassar, 29 of Mosta, was granted bail after pleading not guilty to assaulting police officers at the Mosta police station.

Inspector Edmund Cuschieri told court that on Saturday 14 September, while at the Mosta police station to sign the bail book, Cassar had resisted arrest, assaulted and threatened three officers. The man was also charged with committing an offence during the effective term of a suspended sentence

The prosecuting inspector objected to bail because Cassar had already been trusted by the court in previous days.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke granted Cassar bail against a deposit of €200 and a personal guarantee of €1,500. Cassar was also placed under probation.

Lawyer Franco Debono appeared for the accused.
