Police protect security van after technical problems

Police say presence of armed officials is standard procedure to safeguard the stranded security van, that was allegedly carrying cash.

A security cash-van broke down this morning on the Regional Road shortly before the St. Venera tunnels, due to some technical problems.

This caused a number of armed officials from the Rapid Intervention Unit to quickly surround the van as a precaution.

Police told MaltaToday that this is standard procedure in such scenarios, since the safety of the security van was compromised.

Due to this incident, traffic in the direction of Valletta accumulated, stretching back to the bypass adjacent to Mater Dei Hospital.
