Police investigating last Tuesday’s attempted murder at Tal-Pieà, believe that the victim, 52-year-old Vince Muscat known as “il-Koħħu” knows who his assailants were but so far has not revealed anything.

Muscat is still at Mater Dei's ITU in critical condition, although reports are that he is making progress and that he will survive. Police sources told MaltaToday that investigators talked to Muscat at Mater Dei Hospital but no progress has been made.

Although the six shots fired at around 11.30pm last Tuesday were heard from a distance, it seems that nobody saw anything and once again the police have no clue of who committed the crime. All they know is that after the shots were fired a car was heard leaving the scene with high speed.

Muscat was hit with at least three bullets in his head although only one entered his head and went down to his neck. He sustained slight injuries with the other two while three more shots missed him but hit his car.

The attempted murder happened when Muscat was in his car in Bordin Street in Gwardamangia, Pietà.

Bleeding from the head, “il-Koħħu” drove himself to the Msida Police Station and shocked the Policemen on duty when he told them he had been shot.

Vince Muscat was arraigned in court in connection with the heist on the HSBC headquarters in 2010. The “millionaire hold-up” was was foiled when police from the Mobile Squad intervened and shots were fired. Muscat, together with Darren Debono, stand accused of this attempted hold-up and the attempted murder of PC265 Kenneth Ciangura and PC869 Kurt Gauci. At least 30 rounds were shot at the police from the mobile squad who returned fire during which Debono was hit in the jaw but survived.
