Russian charged with using forged documents

Russian overstays for a year then presents forged letter claiming he was attending university

Russian 20-year old Artur Gurdzhinyan, who resided in Msida, was granted bail after pleading not guilty to forging documents.

Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri told the court that after overstaying by a year, Gurdzhinyan presented a letter from the University to the Citizenship and Expatriates Department, claiming he was a successful student.

However when the document was checked, it proved to be false.

Gurdzhinyan pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri granted bail to the Russian youth against a deposit of €3,000 and a personal guarantee of €10,000.

Lawyer Jason Grima appeared for the accused.
