Serbian jailed for Sliema thefts

Rapid Intervention Unit apprehends accused after a chase on foot through Sliema streets

25 year-old Mikelic Srdan, from Serbia, was sentenced to four months' imprisonment after he admitted to a string of thefts in the Sliema area on 20 October.

The arrest came after the police received a report of a man wearing white shorts and a blue top who had just stolen items from a shopping outlet in Bisazza Street, Sliema.The police Rapid Intervention Unit were called to the scene and apprehended the thief following a chase on foot along the streets of Sliema.

Srdan admitted to three charges of simple theft, as well as charges of receiving stolen goods and disturbing the public peace, disobeying police orders and running in a manner that endangered passersby.

Inspector Jason Francis Sultana prosecuted whilst, Lawyer Christopher Chirchop represented Srdan.
