Prolific thief caught on CCTV

The accused has multiple previous convictions for petty theft

A man who was caught on CCTV pilfering cash from the till at a bar in Marsa has been remanded in custody after he was arraigned before Magistrate Neville Camilleri this morning.

Manual labourer Kersten Catania, 23 who gave the police a stable as his address, pleaded not guilty to charges of theft and to being a relapser.

The accused, who has multiple previous convictions for petty theft, was charged with stealing €650 from the till at McKay Bar in Marsa while the barman was distracted. The theft was captured on CCTV.

Defence Lawyer Gianluca Caruana Curran did not request bail at this stage, asking instead that the accused be held at the Forensic Unit at Corradino Correctional Facility. The court accepted this request.

Inspector Robert Vella prosecuted.
