Suspended sentence for man who stole sister's jewelry

The accused had been invited to his sister's house and used the opportunity to take several items of jewelry

Denis Galea, 32, from Rabat was handed an 18-month sentence suspended for three years after he pleaded guilty to stealing jewelry from his sister’s house.

Inspector Sarah Magri told the court that the accused had been invited to his sister’s house and he used the opportunity to take several items of jewelry, valued at €1500 in total.

Lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace, appearing for Galea, told magistrate Audrey Demicoli that he had only just started working in construction but would repay the money.

The magistrate gave the accused six months to refund the amount stolen.
