Man charged with stealing four mobile phones from Paceville

A Libyan man has been remanded in custody after being charged in court with stealing four top-of-the-range mobile phones from Paceville.

Hal Far resident Yousef Kalifa, aged 23, was arraigned before Magistrate Marseanne Farrugia this morning, accused of stealing a Samsung Galaxy S6, an iPhone 5, as well as an LG and a Sony mobile phones in the early hours of 11 July.

Police Inspector Elton Taliana informed the court that the thefts had taken place on the 11 and 18 July. He explained that Kalifa had been arrested for the theft of the Samsung, but had escaped from custody. Upon being re-arrested, he was found to be in possession of three other stolen mobile phones.

Legal aid lawyer Christopher Chircop did not request bail and the accused was remanded.
