67-year-old bather dies after experiencing difficulties while swimming at Paradie Bay, Cirkewwa

A 67-year-old Briton died this afternoon after drowning at Paradise Bay, in Cirkewwa.

The incident happened at around noon, when the man’s relatives and other bathers noticed that he was encountering difficulties while swimming.

An AFM search and rescue vessel was immediately deployed to the area, while officials from the Rapid Intevention Unit, paramedics, as well as CPD officials were also on site.

An AFM rescue swimmer pulled the man from the sea and performed CPR while the Briton lay on the sand. The Briton – who was in Malta on holiday - was subsequently conveyed to Mater Dei Hospital by an ambulance and was initially certified to be in critical condition.

The man however, died soon after.

Duty Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit launched an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
