Liberian man accused of forging documents

Matthew Richmond appeared in front of Magistrate Joe Mifsud, accused of forging and tempering with identity documents.

A 31-year-old man from Liberia was arraigned in court before Magistrate Joe Mifsud, accused of possessing a forged Italian documentation and residence permit.

The court heard how Matthew Richmond made use of these documents on November 2015 at the Malta International Airport.

The accused pleaded guilty of all charges against brought against him. The prosecution and the defence agreed that the accused should not be sentenced with an effective jail term.

The Court took into consideration various factors, including the nature of the charges brought against the accused, his guilty plea at an early stage of these proceedings and his co-operation with the Police.

The accused was handed a two-year suspended sentence.
