Momentum has called on MATSEC and the Education Ministry to reschedule examinations on 1 June due to the large-scale disruptions expected on that day following the announcement of the general election result.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party petitioned MATSEC to act in the best interest of the students, since the current plan risks placing students at a disadvantage through no fault of their own.

“It is unacceptable that students will be forced to contend with traffic gridlock, road closures, and motorcades which could prevent them from arriving at their examination centres on time,” Momentum said.

Momentum asked the authorities how they plan to ensure that students are able to reach their exam on time.

This comes after MATSEC rescheduled or relocated a number of upcoming examinations following the announcement of a general election on 30 May. Momentum also questioned why such a foreseeable conflict was not avoided in the first place.

“Students deserve certainty, fairness, and a level playing field, not added stress and logistical obstacles beyond their control,” Momentum committee member Natasha Azzopardi said. “Momentum stands with students, parents, and educators in calling for immediate action to rectify this situation.”
