Half-day turnout up everywhere but Labour-leaning districts show higher average increase

The turnout of voters by 2pm has increased across all districts when compared to the 2022 general election, with the 2 District showing a five-point increase.

The Labour-leaning 2 District, which includes Żabbar and the Three Cities, saw the highest percentage increase in turnout by 2pm. On the flipside, the PN-leaning 10 District, which includes Sliema and St Julian’s, witnessed the lowest increase in turnout—just over one percentage point.

The 2pm turnout figures do not include the numbers from early voting. Thousands of voters already cast their vote last Saturday and on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the last election, the Labour Party obtained a majority in all districts between one and seven, and in Gozo. The Nationalist Party obtained majorities in all districts between eight and 12.

The districts that returned Labour majorities in 2022 registered an average 2pm turnout increase of 3.3%, while districts with PN majorities in 2022 registered an average turnout increase of 2.8%.

Voting has been brisk across all polling stations, although the Champions League final that started at 6pm has impacted turnout this evening.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Maltese registered to vote in Gozo are caught up in long queues at Ċirkewwa.

Polling stations will remain open until 10pm.
