€50,000 stolen in daring hold-up outside airport, shot fired

Police are investigating a daring hold-up outside the airport’s departures lounge this morning, where a shot was fired and thousands of euros in jewellery were snatched from two businessmen who regularly travel abroad.   

A shot was was fired and more than €50,000 worth of jewellery was stolen as two men were preparing to travel abroad early this morning at around 3am. The hold up was apparently filmed by CCTV cameras. 

A 46 year-old from Balzan and a 49 year-old from Naxxar were reportedly preparing to enter the airport to catch a flight, when two hooded and armed men approached them by the airport’s car park and fired a shot.

The men made off with the jewellery and abandoned a stolen van in Kirkop.

A magisterial inquiry is underway.
