StandUp satisfied at parliamentary vote, disappointed at Prime Minister

Pro-divorce movement ‘StandUp’ has expressed satisfaction at parliamentary vote, disappointment at Prime Minister’s ‘no’ vote.

In a statement, ‘StandUp’ expressed satisfaction that parliament’s approval at second reading of the divorce bill, respects the people’s will as expressed in last May’s referendum, which overwhelmingly voted in favour of the introduction of divorce.

The movement however, expressed its disappointment at Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi who voted against the bill, and in doing so, he has “gone against the will of the majority.”

StandUp augured MPs well for the next phase in approving the bill, as they discuss the amendments in committee stage.
