AFM remove unexploded petard
Earlier this morning, after the weekend feast's fireworks the Armed Forces of Malta's Maritime Squadron conducted a search of their premises at Haywharf Base, Floriana, for post-fireworks' burn debris and any unexploded shells.
In the course of policing the base and its quayside facilities, an unexploded petard was found and the AFM's Explosive Ordnance Disposal operators were called in to render the area safe, and to further dispose of the unexploded shell.
Valletta Police investigations, led by Inspector Pierre Micallef Grimaud, are underway to ascertain the circumstances of this occurrence.
