Labour’s ‘cheap talk’ on Moody’s downgrade – PN

The Nationalist Party has described Labour as “childish” over its jibe at the Prime Minister’s ‘certificate of failure’ after Moody’s credit rating agency downgraded Malta’s bond ratings from A1 to A2 with  a negative outlook.

“How sad and puerile that the best Labour can do are childish accusations instead of suggesting ways of how Malta can be more competitive,” the PN said in a statement.

The PN said Malta had the fastest growing economy in the EU and we also have one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe.

“There is no reason for us to sit on our laurels – we need to work harder to make Malta more competitive, create more and better jobs and strengthen public finances.

“But, doom and gloom will get us nowhere. We should be proud of our achievements – our success should strengthen our commitment to work harder for our country and its people,” the PN said in a statement.

The party said Moody’s report could serve as an eye-opener for the Labour Party. “The report makes it clear that we should be constantly on our guard for what is happening in the world around us – because an open economy like ours is exposed to the turbulence experienced in other economies.”
