MUT orders industrial action at Junior College

The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) ordered industrial action at University of Malta’s (UM) Junior College after declaring a trade dispute and failing to reach an agreement with the government.

The declaration was issued in November 2025 over a two-year delay in concluding the collection agreement for the school. 

At the time, they had said that the delay in negotiations and the failure to provide financial support despite promising it for several months are “unacceptable.”

The MUT has directed all UM Junior College lecturers to:

• Refrain from submitting assessment marks
• Refrain from submitting attendance records
• Refrain from carrying out any duties related to committees, boards, or departments
• Refrain from participating in departmental meetings
• Refrain from participating in boards including the Junior College board
• Refrain from participating in committee meetings

The directives shall become effective on 15 April.
