Alex Borg promises free physical and mental health screenings
The Nationalist Party also promised to turn Selmun Palace into a national health park, and Fort Campbell into a wellbeing park
The Nationalist Party is proposing free physical and mental health screening for all workers.
PN Leader Alex Borg announced this proposal on Workers’ Day in a press conference in front Selmun Palace, which was pitched as the site of its national health park idea.
Borg, flanked by PN candidates Norma Camilleri and Ray Gatt, said that his party believes in the site’s potential. In fact he also explained plans for Fort Campbell, stating that he wants to transform the site into a wellbeing park.
The party stated that Selmun Palace, which used to be a hotel, can be used to house 60 bed spaces intended for patients who need rehabilitation. Apart from patients referred to the potential centre by doctors, the public would also be able to apply for a membership to use the facilities.
The new proposals follow a number of other promises made earlier this week, as the PN is using the first week of the campaign to talk about health-related proposals.
Among other promises, the PN pledged to raise all stipends by 25%, while healthcare students would receive a €1,000 monthly stipend.
Borg promised tax incentives to encourage Maltese healthcare workers abroad to return, including a five-year tax exemption.
He referred to plans for four new hospitals, a national health park, an extension of Mater Dei Hospital and the regeneration of the Paola hub. He also mentioned a €300 grant for youths aged 15 to 25 to purchase a smartwatch to track physical activity.
