Ten domestic violence arrest warrants remain outstanding
Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield says eight suspects are either abroad or untraceable, while two are receiving treatment at Mount Carmel Hospital
Ten arrest warrants related to domestic violence cases remain unexecuted in Malta, Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield confirmed in parliament on Monday.
The information was tabled in response to a parliamentary question by MP Miriana Calleja Testaferrata de Noto, who asked how many domestic violence arrest warrants remained outstanding, how long they had been pending, and what measures had been taken to establish responsibility for failures to execute them.
Bedingfield explained that four of the outstanding warrants concern Maltese nationals, while the remaining six concern foreign nationals.
Of the four Maltese nationals, two are receiving treatment at Mount Carmel Hospital, while another is believed to be outside Malta.
The fourth individual could not be located by authorities and has subsequently been flagged in the Schengen Information System (SIS).
Meanwhile, all six foreign nationals are currently outside Malta, with alerts issued through the SIS.
The system allows law enforcement authorities across participating European countries to share information on individuals wanted for arrest, missing persons, and other security concerns.
However, Bedingfield did not specify how long the warrants had remained unexecuted.
The fourth question also remained unanswered, with the minister failing to address whether any investigations had been carried out to establish responsibility for potential failures to execute the warrants.
