Notary charged with misappropriation

Police charge Zebbug Notary with misappropriating clients stamp duty funds on contract registration.

Notary Philip Said, 60 of Żebbuġ pleaded not guilty to misappropriating almost €5,000 in monies entrusted to him by clients as a public official.

Said was charged before Magistrate Miriam Hayman with having committed the misappropriation to the detriment of Paul and Nikolina Vella, Carmel and Carmen Saliba and Sario and Antoine Saliba.

He was also charged with committing a crime as a public official.

Assisted by lawyer Malcom Mifsud, Philip Said was granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €15,000.

Inspector Joseph Abdilla prosecuted.
