Pope appoints new Nuncio for Malta

Pope Benedict XVI appoints Vibo Valentina Bishop as new Apostolic Nuncio for Malta.

In what is being described as his last appointment before resigning from his Pontificate, Pope Benedict XVI has this morning appointed Bishop Aldo Cavalli as the new Appostolic Nuncio for Malta.

77 year-old Mons. Cavalli, currently the Bishop of Vibo Valentina has already served as Apostolic Nuncio in Chile and Colombia.

Born into a baker's family in Lecco, Italy, Mons. Cavalli was ordained to priesthood in 1971, and is a graduate in political sciences and served at the Secretariat of State at the Holy See.
