Kosovo Minister calls on Maltese MEP to support closer cooperation with EU

The Interior Minister of Kosovo has requested the support of Simon Busuttil to back Kosovo's efforts towards closer cooperation with the European Union.

Minister Bajram Rexhepi noted the cautious approach of the EU Institutions towards Kosovo. Although five of the EU's 27 Member States have still not recognized Kosovo's independence, the Interior Minister expressed his desire for the EU to reach out further to Kosovo.

Malta has already recognised Kosovo's independence.

MEP Busuttil congratulated Rexhepi, who was Kosovo's first Prime Minister, on Kosovo's efforts to build the state's capacity for future cooperation with EU institutions. "The EU has an important role to play in continuing to foster peace and prosperity in the Western Balkans. Kosovo is a young state that needs all the support it can get. I look forward to working with Kosovo and supporting its ambitions to achieve closer cooperation with the EU." Busuttil stated.

Minister Rexhepi was accompanied by the Republic of Kosovo's Ambassador to Belgium, Ilir Dugolli.
