Children’s allowance to be paid in advance

Allowance to be paid next Saturday due to back-to-school expenses

Children’s allowance will be paid three weeks in advance, Family Minister Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca announced this morning.

This is intended to help alleviate the financial burden caused by the commencement of a new scholastic year.

“Four mothers approached the Prime Minister in recent weeks, proposing the anticipation of October’s Children Allowance payment. It was from there that we acted instantly on this proposal,” Coleiro Preca said.

17,500 families with around 25,000 children will benefit from this move, with the government forking out almost €6 million.

Another 23,000 families will benefit from supplementary assistance, foster care and disability allowances, for a total of €1.6 million. All the 40,000 families will receive their payments next Saturday, 14th September.

“This is one of the measures we’re introducing in order to combat social exclusion. There are cases of students going to school without full uniforms or stationary for several weeks, due to financial difficulties of their parents. Although this measure is a minor change, we’re sure it will make a major difference.”

Coleiro Preca stated the timing of other payments is to be studied, inviting parents to send their feedback through her private email, [email protected]

Well done decision help at the right moment. the only problem I see with this matter is that of gambling. Unfortunately not all parents are responsible for the management of their finances, so one should ensure that in one way or an other it is the child who is benefiting from these allowances.
